Gorgeous quality Products and Affordable Prices

In reality, until our customers can hold one of our products in their hands and carefully look it over, it’s difficult to convey our quality and construction. Moreover, we believe a pleasant pack or chair, a waterproof tent, and a  comfortable warm sleeping bag or air pad do not need to be expensive. Value can be defined as getting what you pay for. We judge value as getting more than you pay for.

Our exploration, analysis and Test Results

The ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 2 person tent is a budget-friendly choice for those who won’t fork over the amount that 4-season tents are going for these days. While all of the other tents we tested scored higher generally than this one, we were still impressed, particularly when we stopped to consider its achievement and price tag.

It’s not a go-anywhere-do-anything model but presents a decent option for the types of trips most people are going to embark on. It will execute exceptionally for summertime mountaineering and most below treeline winter camping.

Stand ease of Set-up

The Tasmanian 2 is straightforward to pitch. It utilizes a simple design with quick-to-assemble poles and plastic clips that hold them in place. Altogether, it was one of the easier models to set up. We appreciated this setup, as it made the body of the Tasmanian vastly quick and easy to pitch.

Besides ease, this design decreased the pole’s exposure to being bent or broken while being pitched, whereas you can clip the body from the bottom up.

This is something that you can’t do with pole sleeves, where the tent has the potential to become a sail before all the poles are inserted.

Have a well Weather and Storm counteraction

The Tasmanian 2 is a thoroughly storm-resistant 4 season tent. It sports a unique two-pole design for its construction. Firstly, the first pole runs the length of the tent and “Y”s at both ends using plastic hubs.

Secondly, the second pole that runs width-wise across the tent adds a fair amount of structural support. It is charged noting that unlike most other models in this review, the body of the tent wasn’t taut until we put the fly on and guyed and staked the tent out. The Tasmanian 2 held up to snow loading well but was not the best performer when it came to strong winds.

Its features handle snow loading well and depending on its orientation to the wind, it is efficient of withstanding moderate winds. It isn’t quite strong enough nor would it be our first choice for expeditions to more extreme alpine environments like Denali or Antarctica, where a tent breaking could create potentially life-threatening circumstances.

Appreciable Weight and Packed Size

The Tasmanian 2 weighs about seven pounds for just the body of the tent, the fly, and poles. You’ll find yourself with a packed weight of about seven pounds seven ounces if you want to include the stakes and guylines.

This tent isn’t super heavy for a double wall model. This is where some of the Tasmanian 2’s materials and construction come into play. Moreover, the interior fabric is heavy and cheap feeling and the poles are basic; the pole clips aren’t the lightest.

Comfortable livability and consolation

The Tasmanian 2 sports 34.5 square feet of inward space, which is a touch above approximate compared to the rest of our fleet. It also features a longer length that is excellent for taller users. For example, in the center, there is a lot of headroom, but when two people sit facing each other and say to play cards, their heads will touch the ceiling.

The doors are also undoubtedly small, though it isn’t a massive deal. On the contrary, one of the biggest highlights of this tent is the twin hooped vestibules, one at each end of the tent. Though, all of our testers commented on how much they liked the model, as the vestibules were sufficiently large for packs and other gear, while still offering enough space to easily sneak by or to take a jacket off prior to crawling into the main body.

Finally, there are two mesh roof outlets that can be opened both on the body, exposing mesh with zippers and on the fly. The outlets on the fly can be vaulted open to maximize airflow. While this ventilation set-up wasn’t as elaborate as some models, it certainly helped and was very easy to use, even from the internal of the tent.

With best Adaptability and Versatility

The good news is, the Tasmanian 2 is average for adaptability and versatility. It provides two doors each feature a full-sized mesh window, plus two additional smaller vents in the ceiling.

Actually, this helped condensation reasonably well, enough so that we’d consider taking this tent on the occasional three-season backpacking trip.

The Tasmanian 2 is good for many four-season applications, but not all of them actually. It will be excellent for summertime mountaineering objectives and is decent for winter camping near and below the treeline.

It manages snow loading well, but just does okay in strong winds, and we’d avoid taking it someplace where it might be exposed to these conditions. The internal fabric on the body of the tent is not especially breathable, and has okay venting, making this tent less charming for regular three-season camping.

FAQ‘s

1. Would this tent handle heavy rain and floods?

Ans: Yes, you can use this tent to camp at 12,000+ feet by Silverton, Colorado in the San Juan Mountain range also. After all, this would handle heavy rain and floods.

2. What temperatures is it recommended for?

Ans: The tent will handle any kind of situation from 90 degrees to -50.

3. Would this fit into a 3000-4000 cubic inches hiking bag?

Ans: Most easily it would. If you have a 52-liter bag (3200 cu. in.) and then you can see it consumes a lot of space making packing around it a little difficult (but doable). You will probably be just fine with 4000 cu.

4. Is this easy to take down and put away?

Ans: I won’t say easy, but it isn’t hard to do it. It takes a little bit of time if you do it alone.

5. Does this tent come with a bag to pack it in when its disassembled?

Ans: Yes, it does. The stuff sack is pretty generous and will fit the footprint as well as the tent and poles with plenty of room to afford.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 2 is one of the best options for the best price. It only narrowly missed winning our overall Best Buy Award to the REI Arete ASL, which is two pounds lighter, marginally more wind resistant, and has better headroom.

Besides, reasons to opt for the Tasmanian include its very long internal dimensions, two doors, and two huge hooped vestibules.
